Portrait Fix

I could stand it no longer.
It just was NOT satisifying to change the image in a computer program. With zero concern for the time I got out my pastels and eraser and went to work. Thankfully, the eye erased easily.
It was 2 am before I was finished. Thank goodness it's a holiday weekend!

Live Portrait Drawing Class

October 9-2008 I attended Muskoka Arts & Crafts Portrait Open Studio.

from their website:

Portrait Open Studio meets at the Chapel Gallery every Thursday evening at
7pm. A model is available and class members bring their own drawing
materials. No instruction is provided but support and fellowship is
available. The Portrait Class shows its work with the Life Drawing Open
Studio in an annual exhibition at the Chapel Gallery in the Spring.

My first live portrait drawing in umm...well..20 years? THAT is my excuse. I'm sticking to it. The other is...I thought we were doing a 20 minute sketch. So I was trying to get the gist and that is how I got the eyes all wrong. (see left hand side portrait). So I played with the eye in a photo program and it ismuch better. (see right hand side). My eldest son (16) is the model. : )

But I don't want to smear my work as I go. Well...half the battle is admiting I have a problem...so I hear.

2008/01/26 Ya, I know, the challenge was more along the stairway line, but as we had 2 showings and an open house today I felt this was somewhat more fitting. The "Look Around The House Dance!"

2008/01/24 Oh this one was fun, a complete layer job. Found this lovely (sarcasm) hair brush in the back of the drawer. It's going right into the garbage now. Watercolour pencils, water colours, liquid arcylic, black pigma micron 08 marker, copic 03 sepia marker.

EDM # 123 draw a bell

2008/01/14 Perhaps a little over the top for an EDM : ) but I have this lovely bell so I wanted to have some fun with it. This took me two days, as the image is stippled then painted. Sooo I've still been meeting my goal by drawing daily. : ) This is 15"x20" on Canson 140lb cold press. Micron marker 02, water colours, liquid acrylic. Too large for the scanner so this is a photo. Colour is not as intense and image not as sharp, otherwise close. BUT...something is bothering me about it!Below I have reworked the image to round out the bell, add highlights. This seems to be the fix I was looking for! Thanks members of EDM for your aid!

2008/01/12 Just so you know, I'm rather BLIND without these, so I thought I take them off and paint them with impaired vision, which is why they look this way.

2008/01/12 welllll...seeing as I had the colours mixed for the scissors.....

2008/01/11 Great old pair of scissors. Husband found these tucked away in our basement soon after we moved in (about 13 yrs ago).
